What we do
![]()
The Social Cooperative Rome Medicine, “ONLUS” is a non profit organization,
whose head offices are located within Rome’s town hall IV district, 73
Bracco St, was founded in 1999, by the will of a group of sixteen family doctors
working for one of Rome’s Public Health Districts ( ASL RMA /IV distretto),
and serves the following areas: Montesacro, Talenti, Bufalotta, Colle Salario,
Fidene). This group is officially recognized, and offers integrated welfare
as well as general health services ( offering both training and health information)
to various areas in Rome.
Presently the social Cooperative Rome Medicine is formed by 60 family doctors,
some of who are in training, as well as by many collaborators and volunteers.
In March 2000 the “Consorzio Regionale di Sanità –Co.Re.San.-
(Regional Consortium of Health)” was formed in association with two
Lazio cooperatives.
In 2006 it contributed to the creation of a computerized and shared online system
that provided health management and house calls assistance. Such system has as
well been adopted by 10 partners to create the on line medicine sharing, as provided
by the collective agreement of the National Health Service. In addition, the
cooperative has obtained the Certificate of Quality System in conformity with
regulation UNI En ISO 9001:2001 (ISO 9001). Such certification is released according
to the technical regulation Sincert RT -04 and it is applicable to the following
area:
“
Planning and delivering social welfare and health assistance for both house and
territorial calls”.
Publications
![]()
The
newspaper “FONENDOSCOPIO” is published since 1999. This publication
deals with social welfare and it is freely distributed throughout the Cooperative
to family doctor’s, surgical offices and, is also sent via mail on a
six month basis, to the inhabitants of the Town Hall IV sector.
Projects
![]()
In
2000 the Cooperative completed a project called “Assistance to pilgrims
of the year 2000 and experimentation of new models regarding continuous Health
Services”.
Such experimental project was performed in collaboration with the Lazio Region
councillorship for health care. The service engaged 23 unemployed medical doctors
offering, continuous services throughout the entire year such as :after-hours
and holiday care, and all day-24 hour assistance to registered patients who
received excellent medical services by all the doctors that supported this
project.
The following steps were created:
1) Four surgical centres, located within some Rome areas and linked to main
pilgrims welcome centres.
2) One call-centre headed by two doctors that delivered 24 hour-day medical
advise.
The doctors that work in these centres had available electronic clinical data
with all the medical information regarding a specific patient, that was linked
directly from the family doctors file, ensuring, if necessary, an “answer
and go” service.
General medicine doctors, as well as those of continuous service involved with
the project, were trained to attend territorial emergencies, following a refresher
course dealing with “Basic Life Support”. They received a “BSL
adult IRC” and an “AMET” certificate.
At the end of the project the Rome Social Medicine Cooperative organized an
event to advertise and share the results obtained from this experience, with
other medical doctors working with the IV district, who had not joined the
cooperative.
In 2001 the Cooperative completed the project “Integrated Social Health” (Integrazione
socio-sanitaria).
Such project compiled an entire database information to be shared with both
ASL RMA house medical assistance and social services given by the Town Hall
IV District. This project solved the problem of the irregularities encountered
by previous systems that were used among operators by connecting the various
territorial social health structures, making possible a more rapid and complete
assistance to delicate patients.
From 2001 to 2002 the Cooperative established a service, called “ Seot
Urbe” and developed a project in collaboration with Prof. Santini and
all operating at S.Filippo Neri Hospital in Rome. During the development the
project the doctors, and all the partners of the cooperative were able to share
epidemiologic research regarding “cardiovascular risk factors” from
patients between 20 and 50 years old.
The results of this project were published on a supplementary article on the
magazine “Italian Heart Journal”.
From February 2003 up to today the Cooperative has developed a service called “House
Hospital and integrated health house assistance”, so called “Virtual
Hospital”.
This is an experimental project phase that was developed in association with
the ASL RMA organization and lasted six months, involving 23 family doctors,
partners of the Cooperative Rome Social Medicine and received “ Premio
Alesini” mention.
Through time, this project has had a natural evolution and in October 2004
what is now called “ Virtual Hospital “, was founded. This service
offered social health assistance, carried out at the patient’s home.
It guaranteed excellent medical care and offered services such as nurse, physiotherapy
and social assistance and education (personal and environmental hygiene, food
preparation) plus the availability of the medical doctor and specialist calls.
From 2005 through 2007, within this contest, the Cooperative realized 12700
nurse cares, 15003 physiotherapy cares, 25208 hours supported by social operators.
On December 31, 2007 the “Virtual Hospital” project phase reached
its end. From January 1st 2008, a one year convention was signed with RMA extending
the service to all family doctors of the IV District.
Fund Raising
![]()
In May 2006 a charity fundraiser event held at the opera house in favour of
those patients admitted to the Virtual Hospital.
In December 2006 an awaken campaign as well as a donation request, were organized,
contacting 55.370 inhabitants of the Town Hall IV district.
In March 2006,2007 and 2008 a donation of 5 per thousand was requested, as
provided by current Italian tax law, in favour of the Cooperative.
In December 2007 an awaken campaign as well as a donation request to 30.000
of the Town Hall district inhabitants. Funds raised were used to provide specialist
calls, requested by the “Virtual Hospital” project. In addition
two ambulances, one of them furnished for medical care of patient to be submitted
to a surgery at the Modena city Hospital.
In may 24th and 25th 2008 a day for the prevention of the abdominal aorta aneurism,
was organized in Talenti square (Rome) with the sponsorship of the City Hall
IV district and “La Sapienza” University of Rome, plus the general
Hospital Umberto I.
Vocational Training
![]()
From 2004, training courses were organized and delivered to some Rome high
schools. Topics such as general health and wellbeing for students, teaching
and non-teaching staff, including first aid personnel (BLS).
From 2004 a free “Health Window” geared to some high school students,
was opened.
In 2004 information and educational health courses were organized for a senior
centre called Nomentano, located in Spallanzani street.
From 1999 a continued medical training program (ECM) was organized for medical
members as well as for colleague doctors working for hometown IV District.
Refresher courses were also organized.
From 2000 the formation trainer, already registered at the Lazio Region, is
also provider of the Health Ministry.
